Several Malayalam hit films have been remade in other Indian languages. The remake rights of the Ramzan winner Chocolate was sold at an astronomical price of Rs. one crore to Mirchi Movies, a subsidiary of Times Infotainment Media, to remake the film in any Indian language. The campus-based flick, directed by Shafi, starring Prithviraj, Roma, Jayasurya and Samvrutha in the lead, tells the story of a young guy who is forced to seek admission in a women’s college.
Now the remake rights of the Christmas winner Katha Parayumbol have been sold to K. Balachander’s Kavithalaya Productions, who are working on a Tamil remake. P. Vasu will be directing the film starring Rajinikanth and Pasupathy in the lead. The original movie, starring Mammootty, Sreenivasan and Meena in the lead, tells the story of a village barber and his friendship with a superstar.
